How To Get An Ontario Boating License
If a boater wants to ride their boats on the waters in Ontario, he or she must be in compliance with the laws of the Canadian Federal Government. These laws are in place to help reduce the number of boating accidents that occur on the water. The laws clearly explain how boaters should operate their watercraft safely for recreation.
Different provinces in Canada have specific laws regarding boating. In Ontario, all that is required to operate a watercraft is a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card, or boat license. There are several ways to obtain one of these cards.
Take Classroom Instruction
One of the ways that boaters can receive a license is to take an accredited Transport Canada course. These courses are offered by different organizations in Canada. After the boater takes the course, he or she must also pass the exam with at least a 75 percent grade. Once the course has been taken and the exam has been passed, the student will be issued a Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
Take An Online Course
Another option for boaters is to take an online boating safety course. The online course is similar to the classroom course in that you will take an exam after completing the course. Exam results will be sent to Transport Canada and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card will be issued to you. If you live outside of Canada but are planning on taking a trip where you will be boating in Ontario then this is your best option.
Study The Manual
Some boaters choose to just study the boating manual on their own time. Once they have read over the exam manual, they can take the exam online, in person or by correspondence.
There are private organizations in Ontario that offer both the boating courses and the exam. These organizations can easily be located online. After you have received your Pleasure Craft Operator Card (boaters license), you will be legally able to operate a power driven watercraft.
What Is The Pleasure Craft Operator Card?
The regulations associated with the card state that it is a document that is issued by an administrator of an accredited test. It is only given to a person who has successfully passed the exam. This means that the card may not be issued unless a test that is accredited has been passed. If you are caught operating a personal watercraft without having a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, you will be fined.
It is very important that all boaters who want to enjoy Ontario’s waters follow the proper steps so they can legally operate their boat. A Pleasure Craft Operator Card will allow you to enjoy the water safely and comfortably.
